Dillon RL 550B

More RL 550s have been sold than any other progressive machine in the world. And for good reason. The RL 550B's versatility is almost unlimited. It will load over 120 different rifle and pistol calibers. Its quick change toolhead allows the user to change calibers without having to readjust dies. Used with Dillon three-die pistol sets, the RL 550B allows crimping to be done separately in the last station. This feature makes die adjustment easier and produces a more consistent and accurate round of ammunition. For this reason, more competition ammunition is loaded on Dillon progressives than on all other loading machines combined. NOTE: Dies sets sold separately. *Shown with the following optional accessories: Low Powder Sensor, Plastic Roller Handle, Strong Mount and Bullet Tray

User reviews of the Dillon RL 550B press:
I originally purchased the RL450 press in the '80's. It has loaded more bullets than I can count. I recently upgraded the frame to the RL550, in order to save the time of resetting the dies to change calibers. I like the toolhead idea. I also had to upgrade to the auto powder dispenser. (I liked the manual one better) While I have 9 loading presses, my Dillons are my go to machines. I have nothing but good to say about Dillon and their staff. Tom Beckham - Pawleys Island, SC

I have reloaded on 550b for the last5 years this is a great press! I do alot of action pistol shooting; therfore I do alot of reloading.40 to 50 thouand rounds easy. The folks at Dillion are top notch! I had a few problems while I was first learning to reload and they were more than willing to help me through the rough spots.

I've had the 550B for 4 years now. I've never had anything break or malfunction due to a problem with the press or components. I've had a few problems that were self-inflicted and easily overcome. After about 25,000 rounds I fully disassembled the reloader, cleaned her and lubed her, just like new again. Only frustrating part is that she loads so quickly that adding primers to the tubes becomes the bottleneck. For the money, in my opinion, you can't go wrong.

I found the problem causing the spent primers to drop all over the place. The pin holding the metal slide is defective and causing the slide not to open an close properly. I replaced it with a home made pin and it works great now.

I have owned and used this press for two years. It is a very fine machine and Dillion has an excellant staff to help with any question or need you may have. I definitely recommend this press or any product that they sell. You can't go wrong with Dillion.

I have used 2 550's for over 10 years (small primer/large primer). Loaded over 20,000 rounds (around 15 different calibers) on each and have had minimal problems. Mainly with spent primers falling on slide instead of cup or an occasional primer failing to feed. So far nothing has broken or seems to be defective. Simple to operate and maintain. Great tools, great service, great people at Dillon.

Dillon is a customer of mine on specialty hardware and Helicoils, I recently became a cutomer of theirs with a 550, other than a few "newbie" glitches this press has been awesome, the customer support over the counter and on the phone has been top notch,..I had a CCI primer lodge in the pick up tube for no apparent reason, they took it back over the counter and handed me a new one no questions asked, also had a shell plate issue banging into the primer slide and could not figure out why, they tweaked and tuned it on the counter late on a saturday and sent me on my way with a perfectly tuned press to finish my 9mm loading.. their "no BS" service and return policies are true to their word,...great company!

The RL 550B is a great progressive reloader. I upgrade from a single stage RCBS and this is much faster. There are a few things that I wish could be made better. -tool head moves a bit while reloading, so the depth of the bullet seating is close but never exactly the same from one bullet to the next. -the spent primer sometimes drops in to the sliding track of the primer holder and causing a bit of trouble.
