Lee Challenger Press

The "O" frame press by design is the strongest. This is by far the most popular style press. The larger than average opening is angled at 30 degrees for maximum hand clearance. The spent primer catcher is effective and the easiest to empty. This same press costs over $100 from other manufacturers without all of the Challenger's features.

User reviews of the Lee Challenger Press press:
I have used it for years. Works great on everything I reload.... .280, 8x53, 30-06 and 300 Win Mag. A few years ago the aluminum arm broke. They replaced it at NO CHARGE. I swear by this press as well as the Lee scale, and Lee Dies. Nothing better, and a great price

I use mine for 38 spl,357 mag, 44 rem mag, 300wsm. I resize nickel plated brass for all rounds and never had a problem. For the money, a highly recomended press for a beginner or a medium volume expert.

A better press is the Lee Classic Cast Press. Capable of handling 50 bmg reloading. I currently use mine for 45 ACP, 44 Mag, 7.62x39, and 30-30 Winchester. Love it and it cost half as much as the RCBS rock chucker. For fun we even mounted a RCBS piggie back unit on it and it functioned just fine.

My father bought my brother such a press in 82 when we came out of the Army and went to University. We used a Redding scale and RCBS dies.We reloaded thousands of rounds in the 4 years as students with this Lee Press. Then my brother bought me also one for my birthday as we split up after University.I have to date loaded more than 35000 9mm rounds,40000 38spl and 357 Mag rounds as well as a assortment of pistol and rifle caliber rounds with my Lee Press for myself, friends and family.I think that it is a excelent record for 22years of service and good value for money don't you?

I have used the Lee Challenger for 3 years. Loaded 10mm, 45 LC, 22-250, 7.82 Lazzeroni Warbird, 338 Lapua Mag, 300 WSM, and I'm going to forget what else. Had thousands of rounds through it, but no case forming. All original parts and no issues. I routinely load rounds that shoot .3 MOA groups with it. I'm going to eventually replace with a Forster Co-Ax but that takes more money...

I have used this press for 5 years with out problems. I brought the Anniversary kit with all needed gear and a loadingmanual nearly nothing. A great press from Newbie to "Semi Pro".

I use this press to load .308W and .375H&H and it works fine for that.

This press would be a great deal for the money, but it has one weakness; the aluminum toggle which houses the handle will break quite easily. Lee said that they have corrected this, but when I sent this part in for replacement, they sent another aluminum piece, which has broken again.

The Challenger is good for smaller cartridges as .22Hornet, .222Rem, 6,5x55 or .308 Winnie, but too weak for bigger cases or forming brass. It will flex if you put power on the handle to form a 8-06 from a .35 Whelen.

I think if you use this tool as it was meant to be used, it will last. I've used Lee Tools for many years now and I have no complints. But like I said, use it correctly.

The absolute worst press ever. The aluminum toggle is just garbage - lasted about 30 rounds. Would not give one to my worst enemy, or maybe I would - if he was planning on shooting at me.

I received a Challenger kit many years ago as a gift and have used the press for all my loading needs. I still prefer to prime my cases with the Ram Prime on the press as I can feel the primer seat even better than with my hand priming tool. I've loaded .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, .270 Win, .45-70, 6mm Rem, .338 WinMag, .25-06 and .223 with my Challenger. No problems ever, but I don't do any heavy case forming duties either.

I received the Lee Anniversery kit, including a Challenger press, two years ago for Christmas. Since then, I have used it, with Lee dies, to load .45-70 Gov't, .458 Winchester Magnum, .30-06 Springfield, and .45 ACP. I have had no problems with any of this equipment. Even using the Belted Magnum Sizing Die on the .458 cases, the surface of my reloading bench will flex, but the press seems to be holding up just fine. Like most tools, if it is used as it should be, I can't see why it wouldn't outlast most shooters.

My Challenger press lasted only two months before the aluminum toggle broke. Took several weeks for Lee to send me new ones which I paid for. Seems like if you purchased it from another dealer, you had to send the whole nine yards in to them , and they in turn send it to Lee. The entire process would have taken me over a month minimum to replace. Lee should replace the aluminum toggle with steel ones ASAP. My replacement is already showing signs of wear again. Doing light loads of 308 winchester only. Will never buy this type of press from Lee again. I do not recommend it to anyone.
