The Question is "why not" the .264 ? The .264 Win Mag is a great cartridge. I have owned one for over 20 years, I used it to hunt Antelope with, reach out and touch them at nearly any range. I shot the 100 gr. Nozlers in it for Antelope and used it on deer for several years. Back around the mid 90's brass got hard to come by, so I started using 7mm Mag. Brass, one trip through the re-sizing die and Waaalaaaaa you have .264. It will shoot the 80 gr. bullets all the way up to 150's, and yes I have some of them in my reloading supplies. It really shines with the 129's and 140's, and if you play with it it will out shoot the 7mm Mag at the longer distances. Most of them are built with 1:9 twist barrels which are really suited for the longer bullets, but mine grouped the 100's in to a 1" dot at 200 yards with no problem at all. I can't seem to put my fingers on the reloading data right now, but it seems to me I used 4831 powder in it at the time. I haven't reloaded for it in a few years, I found that it was just too much gun for whitetails at 100 yards, there are othere calibers with less velocity to do a much better job on them. But, just because I don't shoot deer with it now, does by no means mean that I won't go back to it . . great caliber. The nice thing about it, it a lot of 7mm Mag shooters don't reload for theirs, and you can have the brass nearly for nothing . . I have failed to see all the hype over the new SHORT Mags. a couple of more feet per second is not the killer, bullet placement is. IMHO . . .

I've found that that extra few feet helps me with a flatter balistic
curve and helps me place shots where I want, especially at long range. I know it's not much, but it builds my confidence. Depending on my rest, I have no problem with shot placement past 250 yards. After that I go for a lung shot rather than the heart.

Okieron ,or anyone else , i read somewhere that 264wm came with a very short lead and could not seat bullets long and it would take up powder space ,i am going to start reloading for a friend who has a 264 and i am going to measure lead when i start, but did you come across this problem and if you did how did you load for it. thanks in advance james

Being a hunting round I seat 140 gr. Partitions .030" off the lands. Can't say on the powder. I don't recall it ever being a problem. I'd go and check for you but my gun safe is a royal pain to open.

GO WITH THE 264 MAG BRASS MUCH CHEAPER.
IF YOU HAVE A MAG SAVAGE BUY A BARREL FROM E R SHAW $170.00 FOR 26 INCH BARREL. I NEVER USE MORE THAN 100 GRAIN BULLETS FOR DEER HUNTING 3812 FPS. ZERO AT 300 DROP AT 350 YARDS -2.744
+2.668 AT 175 YARDS
AND USE RL22 68 GRAINS
