Can reloading data for H4831 be used for IMR4831?

Do you own a loading manual or two? Do any of those manuals list the following:

"This data is correct for either H-4831 or IMR-4831"

They are NOT the same powder...as a matter of fact:

181 AA-4350
182 N-204
183 Brigadier 4351

Been trying to come up with a load for the 7.62X54R using 150 grain bullets and IMR4831 powder. Can't find any laods using the IMR4831 powder. I have a lot of the IMR4831 and would like use it.
Thank You,
Bill

Increase your bullet weight to 175 and heavier, and then you can use your powder...

Ko4,
You may use the load data for the 300 Savage. The 300 has a case capacity of 52 grains and the 7.62x54 a case capacity of 53 grains. I use a computer program for creating cartridge cases. The program, created by a balistics engineer, gives exactly the same peak (most accurate) load for both cases with almost identical pressures.

IMR lists a starting load of 44 grains of IMR4831 for a 150 grain bullet in the 300 Savage at about 2,250 fps.

Good luck and good shooting.

I don't use H4831 but am a big fan of IMR4831 in my 7mm Rem. Mag. and my 6mm Rem (with heavier bullets). It's a clean burning powder and produces excellent accuracy in my rifles. I don't know what we'll see in the future since Hodgdon now owns IMR, but currently there are no changes I'm told. Best wishes.

I use H4831sc to load 165 gr bullets in my 3006, and 130's in my 270. the 30-06 load was the preferred load from the older Lyman manual. I use just under max 60.5 gr get great accuracy and performance.

ko4nrbs,
I believe the IMR powders were made, and marketed, by DuPont. We used to get them here in Oz many years ago and they were good powders. I used mainly IMR 4350 and IMR 4831 in a .30 cal magnum and a .270 Win.

The H4831, I believe is made here in Oz by ADI (Australian Defence Industries) and called AR2213SC (I use it and like it very much in my custom .308 Norma Mag). The "SC" stands for "short cut" to feed better through drop powder measures. I understand it is repackaged for the US market and sold as H4831SC.

See http://www.adi-limited.com/handloaders-guide/powder.asp .

Hope this helps.

Cheers and God bless,
Magnum
