A recent post on another thread by DS28 (thanks Dammon) made mention of a new rifle powder from Alliant....It's a ball powder designated Power Pro 2000-MR.....On the Alliant site, they show a load of this propellant with a 150 grain bullet in the .308 Winchester giving a muzzle velocity of 2,950 fps in a 24' barrel....

That's getting real close to the 3 grand mark for muzzle speed...

Anyone else work with this powder yet...? What results did you get with it...? Which stores are stocking it...?

Thanks,

Curly

Curly, Alliant has a load of 53 gr of 2000MR powder with 150 gr Fusion bullet at 3060 FPS out of a 24 inch barrel in the 308 Win. Is this a compressed load? I would think it is considering 48 gr of H380 dang near fills the case with winchester brass. I may try to find some of this powder and try it. If you get to this powder first please let us know what your results are. Thanks Vet

I have the catalog here and yes it does indicate that as a compressed load. It list the 150 Speer BTSP with a 51.5 also as a compressed load. FYI the cases listed with these new powders are Federals and Fed 210 primers.

All you .308 Winchester shooters out there should read the article by David Kynoch on the Western Shooter blog....Wow, those are some impressive numbers for a 180 grain bullet in the .308...

Gotta get me some of that stuff....

we have been playing with this powder for a couple of months now. we have a really good load for target with a 185 berger vld at 2800 fps and I liked it so much with that load that I put the same powder behind a 150grn accubond and got several nice groups with the 15 final testers at 100 and a very nice 3/4 group at 200 yards. I have not shot anything but paper with it yet (wont be long) but im sure the accubond will perform as intended at that speed

As far a loading the powder it is a ball powder and flows through the rcbs 1500 like water and is very consistent on charge weight. I think if you had a good powder drop it would be very consistent for some speed loading

I did read the article by David Kynoch on the Western Shooter blog however I noticed he was shooting out of a 30" barrel. I certainly am interested in hearing more about PP2000MR but I would like to hear some reports from a 22" barrel as most .308's are. I have used Varget exclusively but certainly would like to ring a little more out of my Tikka T3 in .308.

Is not the .308 one of the most efficent cases out there? Charlie NY thanks for the link. Heck the 7mm Rem Mag 160gr Speer BTSP with 70gr charge of RL25 clocks in at 3012fps, Rem case.

The .308 Win 165gr Fusion,P.P. 2000LR and a 51gr charge posts a velocity of 2910fps with a Fed case.

Quite impressive if these velocities hold up in the real world. The .284 does hold a ballistic coefficent edge though.

It's all about Action and Adventure! Go out and get some!
