I have a 1955 Commercial Husqvarna 7x57 rifle.

I see that the Hodgdon site gives the max load of H4350 with a 140 grain bullet as 46.5 grains.

I know there are legal reasons for the company to be conservative in their data and I know as well that many old 7x57 Mausers are Mauser 93 and 95 rifles, thus the need for extra caution.

That said, I see people reporting on the net that in modern commercial rifles that they use 50 to 52 grains of H4350 powder behind a 139 or 140 grain bullet.

Are they being unsafe?

By the way, what works for you if you use H4350 and 139 grain bullets? That is what I have on hand, as well as some H4831 but that isn't a commonly used powder for the 7x57 is it?

I have loaded 54.5 gr of H4831sc for a 98 Mauser in 7x57 with 139 gr bullet. Chronoed at 2858 fps avg.

Paul B. has done a lot in 7x57 and may have worked with H4350 or IMR 4350. If he doesn't comment, send him a PM.

What kind of velocities did the net report getting?

Well right now I'm loading for my old military 7x57 Mauser.I'm using 47 grains of IMR4831powder with 140 gr. CT Silvertips.Hodgdon's max for this powder is 49 gr. at 2759 FPS. I'm loading under this for my old rifle to hunt Deer with. Nosler says that you can use 51 gr. IMR 4831powder for 2762 FPS.

7mm's Forever and a 30 cal. will "Slam Dunk Um"

Your 47 gr. load is probably getting only about 2400 fps in a 24" barrel. My 53.5 gr of H4831SC shoots at 2791 fps in my 95 Chilian Mauser action sporter with 22" barrel. Don't be afraid of a small ring Mauser. They will handle a lot more pressure than some who don't load for them say.
