If memory serves, the .458 SOCOM utilizes an AR15 lower. The only major changes should be the bolt (not the entire bolt carrier group) and a magazine because it is a single stack vs an offset double stack. I will research this too, to ensure that I am not misleading anyone. Good luck and stay safe.

Apparently I was a tad off on the magazine comment, but there are manufacturer's for cartridge specific magazines.

It's about the best heavy cartridge you can put in an AR platform. 45-70 ballistics from a AR-15 is serious medicine for big critters.

The 458 Socom will fit into the standard AR-15 platform. The magazine follower will need to be changed for reliable feeding. Stick with the 458 vs. the 450 Bushmaster. The difference in bullet selection is rediculous. The 450 can use pistol bullets @.452" vs. the 458 using .458" bullets. Enjoy

If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

I'm with ya here! 458 SOCOM the way to go over 450Bushy. Yes AR-15 lower not AR-10. Bolt and magazine are the difference.

The 458 SOCOM uses high capacity AR mags WITHOUT alterations. The 30round AR-15 mag is a 10round 458SOCOM mag.

IIRC, the cartridge was developed when the military was looking for a thumper to break down cars at check points and doors and walls when doing CQB duties. They only had to change the upper and load their mags and they had block breaking power in their CAR rifles.
