Can I please get some help from someone on reloading for a 270 Gibbs. I'm relatively new to reloading and need a little assistance.

the 270 Gibbs is a standard 270 case with the shoulder blown forward to increase case capacity, the result is a case with more room for powder and a short neck,if I were to start on my own,Iwould use near max 270 win data using H4831 and work up from there watchig for the usual pressure signs such as primer appearance and case expansion, sticky bolt lift[hopefully you do not get to this point]etc.Handloader magazine gave an in depth review of this cartridge some years back, perhaps you can get a copy from Wolfe news[they have a website]this might be your best resource for loading this case especially if you are new at the game.

Awood,

I have a 270 Gibbs, with a Pac-Nor SS 24" barrel. Mine shoots very well. What questions do you have about reloading this cartridge?

There are two excellent articles about the 270 Gibbs both appeared in the Handloader magazine published by Wolfe Publishing Co., 2625 Stearman Road, Ste.A, Prescott, AZ 86301 1 800 899 7810.

.270 Gibbs, Don O'Conner, Handloader 90, March-April 1981
The .270 Gibbs, Roger Stowers, Handloader 145, May-June 1990

Both articles are available from Wolfe, for a small fee.

I have narrowed down my powder types in my 270 ai reloading. I use @60 grains of imr4350 for 100/110 gr bullets with CCI 200. I use 62+ grains of R-22 or IMR7828 with CCI 250 for my 140/150 SPBT

I used the case head expansion method when I was working up loads for my 30 Gibbs and found that I could safely use 63 grains of IMR 4350 with 165 Speer spitzer, with very little case head expansion. At 64 grains, the expansion jumped up 0.0002".
I load 62 grains,to be on the safe side and have some cases that have been reloaded six times and still show no signs of loose primer pockets or case stretching.
This gun is a Springfield 03,with the coned breech,so other actions may be able to take more.
The weakest link in firing a good rifle is the case - as Rocky Gibbs claimed,if you have a load that doesn't loosen the primer pockets or lead to case head seperation after several firings, that load should be safe.

Why would some body want a 270Gibbs when they can buy a 270WSM? My 24"BBL 270WSM can produce over 3,100 fps with 150gr bullet.

Well..........it is a 4 year old topic and awood has never replied back on it.....so it probably falls into the WRGAS category.
