I was down at the gun shop looking at few things and they had .243/6mm Hornaday V-max 87 grain ballistic tips on sale.

So I bought 400 and put on my thinking cap and looked over some old chrono data to come up with a 3400 FPS varmint bomb.

No data on Superformance powder and some data on Ramshot hunter. I worked up in .4 grain increments to save time.

Superformance at 48 grains and 46.8 of ram shot hunter got 3 shot chrono speeds right at 3400 avg. Superformance like advertised gets higher speed with less peak pressure and it shows on the flatness of the primer compared to ramshot hunter. You could go higher, but I just want good case life.

I used FC new nickle cases, CCI #34 primers, and 26 inch rem 700 SPS with a 2 inch muzzle brake. 8-32X 60 mm mil dot scope.

That looks like a good load. How were the groups? Sounds like a nice rig.

In the past bench rest shooting I've done some 200 yards at slightly larger than a dime.

The rifle is as accurate as the rest you are on. I have Harris tall bipods. The rifle has always been a joy to shoot and probably the most accurate next to my match grade barrels and possibly my 257 Roberts AI ER Shaw with a 26 inch fluted barrel

That's more accurate than any rifle I own or perhaps better said, better than I can shoot! Wonderful! I admire that.

87 grain Hornady V-Max at 2.72" OAL:

48.0 grains of SupForm with Rem brass and a CCI-250 primer ran at 3,330 fps in my 24" Mauser.

Bob apparently the extra 2 inches of barrel gains about 70 fps.

I made this innovation for a solid rifle rest. I zip tied pipe foam to the outside.

Rifle rest? It's a front roll bar.
