So range has been closed for weeks due to extreme wildfire hazard. Big areas of BC burning. Cities evacuated, so I'm glad the range is closed... but hope to get this load sorted soon
Rain today, 3mm by 6pm, things are looking up. First rain in weeks. Smoke in the air for weeks, too,

So, the range opened on Thursday. So no opportunity for load development. I went with the Barnes min of 54.5. Grns IMR 4831 with the 150 grnTTSX, CCI 250 primer Sighted her in, and shot groups of 1.125 at 100 yds. Whitetail, season started on Sunday, just before the range opened.
Dropped a small buck at 250-300 yds this morning. Nice lung shot. Feeling blessed.

Sorry Shasta, no chrono involved. I've actually never seen one. Doubt if anyone in our small town uses one.

Congrats on bringing home some fresh venison.

54.5 gr of IMR-4831 is probably under 2,800 fps which should make for a smooth shooter and easy on the barrel.

It is almost 6 grains UNDER Hodgdon's MINIMUM

Treat that trigger like itís your first date, not like youíve been married to it for 20 years.

Thanks, Zero. Still hoping to work on a more accurate load. Will try increasing the powder charge, for accuracy. 1.25 moa could likely be improved. Probably still busy hunting for a few weeks, so this load will be good eneough for now, I guess.

I would bet that you are not getting 2600 fps. Certainly fast enough for that size deer. I would be careful loading that light with 4831. I recall published info of secondary pressure waves using light loads of 4831 reported to blow up rifles. I never have seen it. Just read about it.

This is latest Barnes min load. They got 2709 in their test.
Shasta, any idea where you read about blowing up rifles with light loads? I have read about it in a general way, but not specific to this powder.

Shasta, thanks for the links. Lots of info. Not sure quite what to think about all this. Will need to read it again.
