Here is what the western powder reloading data says:

TAC powder 150 HDY BT-FMJ 42.4 2,715 47.1 2,957 61,478 2.735

Friends rem 308 tactical rifle. We went out and set up my chrono for it and my ar-15 early in the morning before it got hot. We had just completed a few sets of rounds through each rifle when here comes a sheriff to tell that shooting has been suspended till fall because of the fire danger so we packed up and left.

But anyway I loaded the 308 with below the max at 46.4 gr. of TAC. The cases were lake city and have less volume than commercial. avg. of 2921 ES of 10

What is other favorite powders for 308 and 150 168 gr

Oh for AR-15 I was using these new super BC 62 gr HPBT the have lower drag the heavier match bullets. But anyway out of my 20 inch QPQ coated precision wylde .223 match barrel H414 27.4 grains 3126 fps and ES of 8 fps. I also had 27.7 and 28.0 grain loads, but we had to leave before running them through test temp was 77 degrees and 13 % humidity @ 4928 elevation. My friend is into it with his weather station and BC charts calculator.

The Nay sayers told me that H414 is to slow for 223!

I can't vouch for the 223, but I have been working on some loads with the 308 Win using IMR 4320 and a 150 gr bullet.

I had to send the rifle back to the manufacturer so it has been maybe a month since my last work.

I am at 46.0 gr with very good accuracy and plan to work up to 48.5 gr depending on how they work out.

I loaded CBTO to give a 0.024" to lands and ambient temperature was 95 deg. I was able to keep the barrel temp under 105 deg.

I also shot RL 15 with equal accuracy compared to the IMR 4320 loads. Both tests so far have held to just under 3/4" outside to outside spread.

I won't chrono anything until I get all the shots fired.

from the burn rate chart the TAC is faster than IMR4895. I probably have enough 4064 to make 100 rounds at least. I don't think that I have R-15 I will try your dose.

His rifle is the nice 26 inch and TAC is not using the longer barrel well.

The charge weights for RL 15 are the same as IMR 4320.

The burn rate chart from Western Powders shows RL 15 and IMR 4320 as the same and both show slower than Varget and IMR 4895, FWIW.

I have prolly 6 lbs of IMR 4320 is the reason I am using it plus I have read articles with using it in the 308 Win.

Here is a good article on it.

Interesting article. It got me to thinking..... I have the old unused drawer on the far bottom of my reloading bench. I never even knew that I still had a couple of tins of Varget. I'm going to sell it all to my buddy with the 308.

He bought 100's of 150, 168, and 175 match type HPBT's
