|
would like some input folks. Have seen some Badger Ordnance scope mounts being cleared new / second hand (military surplus?)in the UK. Have my eye on a 34mm one piece alloy mount that is going for a good price. I am not familiar with this gear so is it any good??

| New, the BO bases and rings command top price. I think they are worth it, for tactical or military rifles, but I can't compare to Farrell. I've got two sets of BO rings and bases, both on USMC spec M40 rifles. The scopes would have to be destroyed before they would move in the mounts. : ) |

thanks guys for the feedback - just need to try and work out sizing now!!. I plan mounting them on my Accuracy International which has an S & B PM11 scope with 34mm tube. Mounts I have seem ok to be honest but these ones seemed bomb proof so I thought I might give them a go.

There are not many better,Ive got them on my AI 338 lapua with a nightforce scope.The scope is going nowhere with these,you wont be disappointed.If they have a bad side there expensive,but worth it.
You'll like them. |

| Badger has a rail for AI rifles,take a look at it,theyre steel.It comes with a zero cant(flat) I dont know if they have changed it.My rings are the maximized med high,I think,Ive had them for 2 and a half years,and I dont remember what I did yesterday.I do know you wont be disappointed.Unless youre shooting at extreme range,you really dont need the cant.I thought you were looking at 34 mm,You have alot of adjustment with a 34mm scope.have f |

Thanks Brian, yep I want to shoot 500 - 1000 yards with the AI so prefer a 20moa rail for the big Schmidt - even with the massive range the scope provides.
Called the dealer and it looks like they are both new boxed and ex dem mounts - all sizes etc. They took on board a large consignnment of schmidt scopes and badger mounts from the military. Either cancelled consigNment or on some from of approval/ trial. Not sure if they have the rails but have used Nightforce ones for my NXS scope and they are bullet proof as well.

Sounds like you hit the motherlode,if youre shooting that far with the 308 ,I agree the 20 min would definitely be the way to go.You would have plenty of elevation then.Please let me know,I love the AI
rifles,it is one of the most comfortable rifles to shoot,even in the
lapua,also would like to know how the 20 min rail works for you
and where you end up purchasing it. |

brian0714, my AW is a 300 winmag so it has the extra grunt to reach 1000 yard distances. It is zeroed at 200 yards and oddly enough is not great at 100 yards!! Rails I currently use are Nightforce 20moa for my 308 which carry NXS scopes so I may look at them again as well. I like the AW which absorbs a lot of the recoil due to its weight but it is also carrying a Bruger Thomett moderator on the end. Adds a lot to the weight but recoil is greatly reduced.
Will let you know what I end up with.

Ha ha you want to try paying UK prices my friend. I suppose once you own this type of rifle though it is a keeper. Spec as follows:
AWM 300 winmag in green, 26'' fluted barrel - not a common calibre here for general sporting rifles although the bench rest set like it
adjustable cheek piece
folding stock
adjustable target butt pad - height and angle adjust
accushot rear monopod
AI bipod
threaded muzzle flash
Bruger and Thomett moderator - screws over the end of the muzzle flash - stainless so adds another few pounds to rifle
AI one piece 20moa scope mounts
Schmidt and Bender PM11 5-25 X 56 double turn - serious piece of glass
A fairly new acquisition and not seen a lot of use to be honest and currently running up new loads for it afer the UK military placed a muzzle energy limit on civilian rifles used on their ranges.

could save a little by going tothe 338 RUM,but then it wouldnt be my
AI.I have a 600 yard range in my back yard,and a suppressor,lord no,the powers that be say that makes a firearm more dangerous somehow.Where I live my next door neighbor is a old farmer who is almost a half mile down the road.Great guy,also,very honorable man.
He deals with my little oddities so to speak.I could shoot just about anything.The 300 win is as common as grass here,very good round
though,Im sure youll enjoy it. |
