What do you all think about the "pros on the prusuit channel?
The reason is becouse as I sit here and watch these pros,
I wonder why dont the ever show hunts on public land? It seems that they are always guided on ranches, and I wonder how much success they would have hunting some of the public land. For instance, watching a guided hunt on the Rocking S Ranch, the guide drove the hunters to the nice ground blinds, with loads of game feeding around
feeders, makeing the hunt almost going through a drive through like Mcdonalds.

What ever happend to getting into the woods, looking for trails, scrapes, rubs, and so on and so forth? I want to know how sucessful these hunters would be if they had to hunt like most of us have to.

Another thing that I am seeing is buying deer to stock ranches. These deer have been rasied to be monsters for people to hunt. I have read that some folks pay up to 150,000 dollars for a big buck to breed.Maybe its just me, but I see a lot of stuff that I just say what the h#$! are these people doing? They call this hunting?

Am I looking at this wrong? What do you all think? E.J.

It's sad but true. Those are NOT on public lands. Most of my own land is leased because I can't afford to "lose" what people pay to hunt. Personally....you need to enjoy the hunt and the friends and family. The rack size is not worth a mortgage payment or in some cases a year or even four years of a college education. I enjoy my family and friends and a small deer or a hog or even a coyote or some good pictures is ok. I personally can't afford what the TV guys do....but it's fun to watch and I think I wouldn't trade one bit of good fellowship to hang around with rich aXXholes who never were challenged and we are. It's like someone whose family "gives" them a new house. They never treasure it like one they worked for and earned. Same for me with hunting. I earn what I get, it's ok. It's the way I am content to be. You and I can shoot as well as they can. Maybe we aren't comfortable with spending what those people spend. Our hunts are just as good and just fine. Mike

From what I see on those shows, they're salesman, not hunters or outdoormen.

I'm sure some people are going to get bent out of shape over this, but here is my 2 cents worth.

It's part of the age of instant gratification we live in; no one wants to work for anything anymore. People now days want to drive out to a field, shoot the newest super duper magnum 3/4 of a mile, go pick up the game and call that a hunt.

The last time I took my nephew hunting we were out at 0500 and he pulled out his cell phone!!! I looked at him and said "what in the hell are you doing?" and he was checking his messages!!

Maybe I'm getting too old. I like getting out in the woods and hunting; walking a bit, stopping and looking/listening and enjoying the time in the woods. The last couple years I don't even care if I kill anything.

E.J. it is a sad day when they come out on tv and call those guys pros. Ten2six is right all they are is salesmen not hunters. And i see mikes point about renting out hes land to make a few bucks to help get by. How can you call a guy a pro when the land owner takes a guy out where a big buck is running. Or on a feeder and sets him there to weight for that deer to come in. They don't have shows of hunting on public land. cause them so called pros couldn't fine there a$$ with both hands.

I was very lucky in life as an old trapper was kind enough to teach me how to trap and learn how to under stand what ever your after and why animals do what they do. This was back in the 50's at the age of 9 years old. Now i'm like most old guys that are stell around from the 40's and 50's it's just great to be out there and be able to enjoy ever minet of it if you shot a deer or not.

53 year's as a trapper 45 year's hunting O 4 of them year's i gave to the ARMY. It is sad to see the way thing are going for us how loves the out door's.

All them years hunting and trapping and i'm stell learning. when you here a guy is a pro, that means he knows evey thing there is to know about some thing. Thats the bigest bunch of BS going. Those are the people i stay away from. Just go out and enjoy the out doors and take a young boy or girl and get them hooked. That's the best part of this when you get my age. Have a good day.

I just wanted to get your take on it. I am fortunate enough to be able to hunt on about 100 acres of private property. My entire childhood, I had to hunt on public land and it got crowded at times, but I can tell you all this, I was never guided, didnt get to hunt around a big feeder where all the game gathered, had to walk about 25-30 min to get to my tree to sit by, and was still fairly sucessful (maybe not to these tv show standards) but still did bag my share of deer.
I went out this morning at about 0530 at I was thinking that this is the way it should be. Had to select the spot which I thought was best based off of what I have seen during the off season, based on which way the wind was blowing so on and so forth. No one did it for me.
While out there I saw a ton of squirrels, and just before I walked in, had a doe and fawn walk with in 25 yards from me. I was just thrilled to be out there watching nature ( I get a kick out of watching squirrels play and chase each other!).
I think that its fine for someone to lease some of there land for others to hunt on to make a little extra money, but its these big ranches, with guides that take so called hunters to food plots to make an easy shot on deer or any other big game, from nice fancy blinds. To me thats not hunting, its target practice, and couldnt hardly watch these shows.
Every once in a while I will see some hunters on tv who are busting their humps out there in order to get that nice trophy, but those are far and few between. For those who are out there hunting their tails off, I give them credit for showing a good hunt, but for the others, what else can you say?
Hunting is about being in nature, fellowship with family and friends,
forgetting about your other problems, as for me when I am out there, I really dont have a care in the world, and of course hoping to take an animal that you intending to hunt. As long as I'm in the woods I am happy. Doesnt really matter wether I see something or not. Of course, do hope to see something, but at the end of the day, as long as I get the privlige to hunt and to be in the woods, I am happy!

Typical for the media people...they got it all bass ackwords. It's not about the shot, or who takes it, hunting is about the process. Putting meat on a table is good, managing herds and wildlife are good, understanding and respecting the outdoors is good, creating an image and taking an easy shot...I can't say anything good about that, so I'm saying nothing at all.

Sometimes it's the simple things that test the will of our character, and the character of our will.
