The 458 Lott was originated by Jack Lott in 1971. It is based on the blown out and shortened 375 H&H Magnum case. It is 3/10-inch longer then the 458 Winchester Magnum case. The purpose of the slightly longer case was to improve 458 Winchester performances with the 500-grain bullet for use in Africa against dangerous game. It has been field-tested in Africa and has chalked up an impressive number of one-shot kills on elephants and buffalo. Rifles chambered for the 458 Lott will also safely shoot 458 Winchester ammo.
